Experts project a 36% growth of industrial fabrication of silver through 2015 to supply emerging market demand.

World supply of copper is failing to keep pace with growth in demand in 2012, and China’s needs alone will rise incrementally through 2020, as it seeks at least 75% more copper to reach developed world per capita usage.

Burgeoning global demand for gold is predicted to continue rising, especially in the Far East where it has become easier to buy physical gold in native currencies rather than U.S. dollars, through the Pan Asia Gold Exchange (PAGE).

Let's Talk About Lead

Puma's got lead, 5.3% in the latest channel sample results, (Feb. 6, 2012 news release) and some may be wondering what this toxic metal might be good for in the 21st century. We've learned a lot about it since the time of the ancient Romans, who slowly poisoned themselves by its use in their plumbing as water intake pipes, in cookware and dishes, and even as a sweetener for wine. (!)
From ammunition to fishing sinkers to gasoline to paint, wax crayons and cheap jewellery, lead has been used in varying degrees all over the world for thousands of years.
Lead (Pb) is element #82, is corrosion resistant, soft and malleable.
Today, about two thirds of the lead used in industry (U.S.) goes into lead-acid car batteries, most obtained through recycling efforts, and it is essential in alloys for solder and other electronic applications. There are at least ten different lead compounds which are used in industry today, from glass and rubber manufacturing, to insecticides and fireworks.
Lead is used to line tanks that store corrosive liquids, such as sulfuric acid. Its high density makes it useful as a shield against X-ray and gamma-ray radiation and is used in X-ray machines and nuclear reactors. Lead is also used as a covering on some wires and cables to protect them from corrosion and as a material to absorb vibrations and sounds.
Although lead poisoning is still a concern all over the world, the phasing out of its use in gasoline additives and food can solder has sharply reduced blood lead levels since the 1980's in countries that have introduced a ban.
There has never been an acceptable level of exposure to lead; no threshold considered safe. People in countries of the third world are most at risk for poisoning, especially children. With its long history and global distribution, an ubiquitous and persistent heavy metal such as lead is here to stay.
It is therefore in the best interests of any producing exploration company to develop and closely guard the safety standards for its workers, especially if the jurisdiction has inadequate or no legislation regarding security from exposure to hazardous material.
Producing explorer or not, Puma Exploration is a supporter of the formal policy introduced in 2008 concerning Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in the form of "e3 Plus - A Framework for Responsible Exploration" developed by the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC). ("e3" stands for Environmental Excellence in Exploration.) It is a set of principles and guidelines for environmental best practice for the exploration industry as well as for the improvement of the social performance of exploration companies to reduce the risks to their projects.

There's More To Puma Than Silver And Gold

We've all heard the real estate adage 'Location, location, location.' But for Puma it's more like 'Location and Timing...' While silver and gold are among the biggest attention-getters in the markets lately, having exposure to copper and other base metals like zinc and lead is helping Puma to maintain a great relationship with the surrounding community. New Brunswick is very helpful in allowing Puma to develop its projects, and their efficiency at granting permits and facilitating development is a major incentive for companies with new mining prospects in the area.

New Brunswick is not new to mining. The opening of the Intercolonial Railway of Canada in 1876 provided a fast connection from the port of Bathurst to the rest of North America which was essential for developing the region's principal industries in zinc mining and forestry. Their experience with the Bathurst area alone dates back over 60 years, when the Brunswick 12 mine was the largest underground zinc mine. Now that the minerals there are rapidly depleting though, it is likely going to be shut down within 2 years, so the Province is interested in finding new projects close by.

Enter Puma Exploration. Both her projects are within 25 km of the town of Bathurst, so a good feature is their location; close to a strong, mining sector labour force, railway, airport, paved road, power lines and deep seaport. Since the spring of 2011, the discovery results that Puma has announced represent only a small part of the 10 km long area of the property. What a resume!

Channel Sampling Vs. Grab Sampling

Several of Puma Exploration's 2011 news releases were focused primarily on grab sample results at their Nicholas-Denys property. All of those releases were exciting to be sure, but their latest NR of Jan. 12, 2012 is unique.

Although the purpose of any sampling technique is to further determine the size of a given resource, the data obtained from a grab sample is based on the geologists' more or less indiscriminate selections from the trench. To this we can attribute the presence of mineralization, which, in Puma's case is very high grade, but we still do not have any average or width values of that mineralization.

On Jan. 12, things became more interesting: "The results and the data obtained along a channel sampling program are similar to drilling a horizontal hole at surface."

Channel sampling provides critical information about resource potential. Not just a grab, but a continuous sample at a constant depth is taken across the length of the chosen area to be explored; a formation, a vein or structure. Results of a channel sample have much more economic significance because they allow us to know the width of the mineral-rich area and the average grade value, not just the nicest bits.

Sampled in this way, then examined, measured and accurately described, the data is of important value to the undecided investor.

How To Stop the 'Paper Guys' From Keeping The Silver Price Down

This is the decade for silver!, predicts financier guru Eric Sprott, a major holder of physical silver and silver equities. In a recent interview he stated that the gold:silver trade ratio should stand at 16:1, and that the rising demand for silver is coming from an additional 4.3 billion people in Asia and South America. The increasing hunger for the metal for industrial and investment purposes was demonstrated in September 2011's historic sale of physical silver coins and China's importation of 7.7 Moz of silver that same month.
"Silver will go up on its own. But the silver industry could aid and abet the situation" says Sprott.
Sprott estimates that if the silver producers put 15% of their cash balances back into silver (instead of the bank) it would reduce the silver supply by 21%, which would result in a shortage of supply for industry purposes, let alone investing, and drive up the price.
"If you are in the silver business, put your money into silver and stop the paper guys from knocking the price around," he said.

As much as 70% of silver production is the result of byproducts from mining for other metals. So the challenge to reinvest is up against a market controlled by the large companies, most of which are not exclusively silver producers.

Puma Exploration never seems to find disappointment with what Eric Sprott advises. Like other companies still in their development stages, this headstrong junior becomes increasingly attractive when the silver price rises since she's not operational. This is because the value of her reserves climbs, and there's no need to worry about the costs of extraction, making her a great candidate for a takeover.

Shining Some Light On Bismuth

Included in Puma's new lens discovery (press release Dec. 8 ) are results of .27% Bi, or the element Bismuth, a brittle metal with a white, silver-pink hue, often occurring in its native form with an iridescent oxide tarnish showing many colors from yellow to blue.
Some facts surrounding this little-known metal:
The name 'bismuth' first appears in documents in the 1660s and is of uncertain origin. It is one of the first 10 metals to have ever been discovered and was often confused with lead or tin because of its resemblance to them. For this reason there can be no one person to whom credit can be given for its discovery. As well, bismuth was already known to the ancient Incas and used (along with the usual copper and tin) in a special bronze alloy for knives.

It is about twice as abundant as gold, the least toxic of the heavy metals and not usually economical to mine as a primary product but is usually produced as a byproduct of the processing of other metal ores, especially lead, tungsten, tin, copper, and also silver or other metallic elements.
In 2005, the price of bismuth began rising dramatically since its global demand as a lead replacement and other uses grew rapidly. Today bismuth stands at about $22 per lb., up from $17/lb in September 2008.
Bismuth use in water meters and fixtures is one particular application that has increased in recent years. An application with major growth potential is the use of zinc-bismuth alloys to achieve thinner and more uniform galvanization. Bismuth was also used in the United States in the manufacture of ceramic glazes, crystal ware, and pigments; as an additive to free-machining steels; and as an additive to malleable iron castings.
Bismuth as a subnitrate compound, or for you chemists out there, Bi(OH)₂N0₃ , owes its value to its effectiveness as an ingredient in over-the-counter gastrointestinal medicines. Taken internally and coming into contact with water, it breaks down, gradually liberating nitric acid, which is one of the most powerful known antiseptics.
In this winter season of parties and occasional dietary overindulgence, let us remember that less glamourous metals like bismuth have their valued place in the mineral kingdom, and Puma is proud to say so.

As 2011 draws to a close, we present a happy reminder of how Puma's discovery model was born, in this short video archive showing exploration work on the Nicholas-Denys property in New Brunswick.
In the Spring of 2006, surface mineralization at the Shaft Lens returned phenomenal samples of silver, zinc, lead and gold from the massive sulfides over 200 metres. From there, Puma continued to return high grade results from subsequent discoveries at the Haché and then the Henry Lenses.
Five years later, Puma continues to amaze us with its extraordinarily high-grade discoveries of silver and gold.
Such consistent success bodes well for the coming years. With 2 of its properties in one of the most mining-friendly provinces in Canada, Puma's greatest assets, apart from 100% ownership of 3 major, advanced-stage projects, are its business and finance models, careful management and maybe most importantly, thorough geological due diligence.

4-City Road Show and Conferences

October saw a lot of progress at the ND site, with continued trenching and sampling while awaiting results of prior work there.

Puma has placed an advertisement and is also featured in the October issue of Resource World Magazine whose focus is on mineral exploration in Canada's Maritimes.

November is a busy month for Puma. Management will be in Fredericton for the Conference of Nov. 6-8 (see announcement below) and will meet with prospective investors there and in Moncton, then on to Winnipeg for the Manitoba Mining and Minerals Convention and to Quebec City for the Exploration Quebec Conference and more meetings.

PUM announced the discovery of the extension of the Cullinan gold-silver structure over more than 300 m, with 21.1 g/t Au and 106 g/t Ag, during the trenching program on its Nicholas-Denys property in New Brunswick. The analysis of the Cullinan showing combined with the exploration targets defined by the geochemical and geo-physical surveys led to the discovery that the Cullinan veins extend more than 300 m toward the south of the prop-erty. These veins contain high grade gold and silver. In addition, seven other samples contain gold grades above 10 g/t Au. The mineralization appears as numerous parallel veins of massive sulphides over about 5 m, varying in thickness from 10 to 50 cm each. The orientation of these structures is generally NW-SE to WNW-ESE. Previous drilling in the Cullinan showing revealed significant amounts of precious metals. Drillhole 688-16 inter-sected 214 g/t Ag over 11 m and drill hole 688-18, 142 g/t Ag over 3.3 m. The surface sampling also exposed silver values as high as 3,470 g/t Ag with a 30% concentration of lead for one of these veins. Puma major projects are the Nicholas-Denys Silver Project and Turgeon Copper Project in New Brunswick and the Little Stull Lake Gold Project in Manitoba.
Comment: Puma’s three major projects have interesting exploration targets with good potential for success."
